Extended After-School Programme (EASP)

Contracted to the Y through the Ministry of Education, the EASP serves up to 1,600 students from public schools across Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac. The goals of the programme include: to improve social, emotional, and academic competencies; provide comprehensive youth development activities with a focus on character development; and provide parents with a safe after-school environment for their children. The Y’s core values of honesty, caring, respect, responsibility, and faith are integrated into all after-school activities.

This programme reaches children most in need during the critical after school hours, helping them build confidence as well as social and emotional awareness. Our primary purpose addresses the main and underlying cause of the majority of challenges our community faces. The Y teaches, and is rooted in basic, core values that inspire youth and build character for all. We focus on prevention to reduce the severity of need for intervention later in life.

Regional Enhancement Programme

The Latin American and Caribbean Alliance of YMCAs, the National Council of YMCAs of India, and CIBC FCIB ComTrust Foundation have partnered to enhance YMCA Afterschool programmes in the Caribbean to ensure that more children and youth have access to quality before and after school programming and care.

The goal of the Afterschool enhancement regional programme is to enhance the quality of afterschool programmes to support positive cognitive, physical, and social-emotional growth for youth in the community through a focus on 9 components:

  1. 21st Century Skills
  2. Arts
  3. College & career readiness
  4. Family and parent engagement
  5. Global learning & inclusion
  6. Health & wellness
  7. Academic enrichment
  8. Leadership development
  9. Service-learning

Through this funding, the YMCA of the Cayman Islands has enhanced literacy and numeracy curriculum, provided teen leadership opportunities and focused on the social and emotional development of our youth, while continuing to develop the staff and volunteers that create safe after-school spaces for children and families in our community.
