The Teen Lead On programme is designed for teens who demonstrate a desire to learn, lead, and serve. This unique programme will strengthen leadership skills utilising the experiential learning model.

Comprising a variety of workshops and seminars, Teen Lead On will utilise the Ropes Challenge Course* and other adventure-based elements across the island to provide teens with specialty leadership training. Teens will also be provided with ongoing volunteer opportunities that both serve the community and further develop their leadership competencies.

Globally, the YMCA has a rich history of leadership development programming, with a focus on social, emotional and cognitive youth development that helps youth & teens learn, grow, and thrive. Teen Lead On will be professionally led by the YMCA’s experienced team, ensuring substantial outcomes and a lasting impact.

Teens who complete the programme will receive an official YMCA Leadership Certificate that will assist with school and job applications. Additionally, the cohort will be provided with opportunities to volunteer within YMCA programmes, with an expectation that they serve a minimum of 40 hours within 6 months of programme completion. Volunteer opportunities include after-school, day camp, sports, ropes course, swim lessons etc.. Following the 6 months of service, Saxon will host a banquet to celebrate the cohort’s achievements and contributions to the community.

*The Ropes Challenge Course consists of both high and low course elements. The course serves as an experiential learning tool, with many elements designed to help in areas such as communication, team-building, confidence, problem-solving, trust, etc.. Providing much more than a physical challenge, the course is both mentally and emotionally challenging.

Safety Protocols:

To ensure a safe environment this summer, YMCA camps have reduced ratios and include additional health and hygiene protocols. We have developed detailed COVID-19 Day Camp Guidelines informed by global health organisations and international YMCA best practices. We will continue to monitor global health and industry standards and always follow national public health guidance and government mandates.

We recommend parents/guardians of a vulnerable camper or household consult their medical provider to assess risk and determine if participation is acceptable.
