Dr. Randy Von Kanel
Immediate Past Chairman
Randy Von Kanel has been the senior pastor of the Cayman Islands Baptist Church in Grand Cayman since 2009, though his love for and commitment to the people of these islands goes back many years before. He attained his undergraduate degree from William Carey College and his doctorate from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
“Pastor Randy,” as he is known, first came to Cayman in 1978, serving in the beginning of Baptist work in Grand Cayman as a music and youth journeyman with the Southern Baptist International Mission Board.
During those years, while serving with First Baptist Church, he volunteered as a music teacher at Cayman Prep School and at Triple C High School, founding at Triple C the first island school band. Later, in 1992, he served as the Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Grand Cayman, giving pastoral leadership during an exciting period of growth.
He presently serves as Chairman of the Cayman Ministers’ Association and as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the YMCA of the Cayman Islands.
Randy and his wife, Cindy (3rd Grade Teacher at Triple C School), have two children: Landon, their son–the Cayman Islands’ first Gold Medal winner in swimming at CARIFTA in 1996—who was killed in a tragic car accident in 2001; and a daughter, Randa, is a magna cum laude graduate from LSU and a recent graduate of the Vanderbilt Law School now a practicing law in Nashville, TN.
